Natural Pregnancy and Childbirth

Pregnancy is a natural and miraculous element in the cycle of life. However, it is also extremely overwhelming and physically demanding. It culminates in the most natural, miraculous and demanding event of all, the baby’s birth.

As an expectant mother, you want to be informed and prepared for this life-changing physical challenge, so you can keep yourself and your baby healthy. You want to prepare for the most miraculous transition of all – bonding as mother and child.

This first book from the ‘Natural Pregnancy’ series explores your choices as an expectant mother, so you can make an informed decision as you follow your instincts regarding issues related to conception, pregnancy, health issues and natural remedies.

 Environmental Risks During Pregnancy

Every day we are exposed to chemical substances which absorb into our system through our skin or as we breathe, eat or drink. Usually the individual levels of exposure for each product are not harmful; however, you need to be extra vigilant during pregnancy, as the cumulative impact of low levels of different toxins could harm you and your baby.

The 3rd Trimester of pregnancy is one of the most beautiful one as your body still goes through changes, your connection to baby grows and anticipation kicks in. This second book from our ‘Natural Pregnancy’ series focuses on the environmental risks with a very comprehensive checklist of common chemicals in your everyday environment will help you ensure you are not exposing your unborn baby to toxins. Then we will explore the great nappy debate, making of a birth plan, see what natural options are available to you for labour and start approaching breastfeeding.

 Bonding With Your Newborn

At last your beautiful baby is here and you finally have an opportunity to gaze at each other. These first hours and days of bonding are essential not only for the new baby but just as importantly for you and your partner as new parents. By holding and caring for your baby you will learn to adjust to your new identity and responsibilities as parents.

A new baby is aware of two central needs – food and the comfort of being held. We know a baby also needs to be kept warm and safe, clean and dry, but as far as the baby is concerned, food and body contact are the two essentials of life. This third book from our ‘Natural Pregnancy’ series focuses on learning how to trust your instincts when bonding with your newborn, the incredible power of nurturing, and how to cope with baby blues. We will also explore in details the aspects of breastfeeding.

 Attachment Parenting

Attachment parenting is a parenting philosophy based on the principle of attachment theory, which states that when caregivers provide close physical and emotional attachment to a child from early childhood, they help increase the child’s healthy socio-emotional development and well-being. A new baby craves physical closeness and familiarity for emotional development and security; therefore the practices of attachment parenting such as holding the baby as much as possible, can have positive repercussions throughout the child’s life.

The philosophy of attachment parenting (or natural parenting) also makes these two needs the priority. As a parent, you learn to trust your instincts and interpret your baby’s cries so you can respond appropriately. When your baby receives the nurturing comfort he craves in these early weeks and months, he will grow into a confident child, secure in the knowledge that his most basic needs are met.

This fourth and last book of ‘Natural Pregnancy’ series examines how you can incorporate attachment parenting philosophies into your instinctive parenting patterns. By learning about attachment parenting, you will have greater confidence in your own instincts and decision-making ability. Your confidence will also enhance your child’s confidence as you interact during these early months.

Molecules of Emotion by Candace Pert

Like Bernie Siegel M.D., Candace Pert Ph.D. is a medical professional who has gone against the grain of traditional science to explore – and ultimately prove – the connection between the mind and the body. Dedicating her life to researching the molecular interconnectedness between our brains and the rest of our body, Ms. Pert is widely respected for her meticulous research and uncovering the truth.

Ms. Pert has proved that the body is not a mindless machine; the body and mind are one. According to Deepak Chopra: “Candace provides us with a vivid scientific picture of these truths. She shows us that our biochemical messengers act with intelligence by communicating information, orchestrating a vast complex of conscious and unconscious activities at any one moment. There is a revolution taking form that is significantly influencing how the Western medical community views health and disease.

Molecules of Emotion reads like a detective novel, following Candace through every turn during her career and the challenges she overcame. Read more…

Last fall, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Bonjour Baby via a giveaway over at the ecoxpo. They had a great display and hosted a giveaway and I won an organic cotton mini bunny. I just wanted to let you know that our kanoe has basically saved my life and my marriage. It has changed our lives completely. My daughter now takes at least 3 naps a day! Before I had this Kanoe I was never able to get her to sleep except for when she would fall asleep on me nursing (...) I just wish I had known about it earlier. Thank you for making our life a little easier :) — Megan Williams
