It’s Party Time!

eco-friendly-party

By Lucy Marinelli.

Children’s parties can be a nightmare. You drop your child off for a couple of hours of birthday party fun and they come home a horror! All those sweet sugary foods, the salt-laden treats, the artificial flavours and especially the colours – that good old hypermaking red. But what can you do to ensure your child doesn’t come home either ill and all wound up or both?

Healthy treats, as you might expect, won’t usually be found at kids’ parties. I mean, who wants carrot sticks when you can have sausage rolls, cheezels, pink cupcakes and mixed lollies? So, some thought will be needed to come up with the kind of healthy treats kids will actually eat, whether you’re hosting the party or sending them along to a friend’s party.

Start with the fruit your children most enjoy. The sweeter and more colourful they are, the better. Kiwifruit; whatever takes your (and your kids’) fancy. Dig out the cookie cutters – flower-like shapes are good, a variety of round sizes, stars, bears, gingerbread boys and girls; the more varied the better.

Get your children involved. Anything they make themselves or help out with, anything they enjoy eating and are proud of, they’re more likely to want to eat at a party.

First, cut the fruit into roughly finger thick slices and lay them out on a cutting board. Select the cutters that are the right size for the fruit slices and cut out a series of different shapes and sizes. You should end up with little piles of colourful fruit slices of all different shapes.

And now to the fun part. Take the flower shaped slices and add a small round berry or little round cut out fruit shape. Pile up different size, round slices to make little fruit cupcakes. You can even decorate them with crushed nuts or a sprinkling of coconut. The bear and gingerbread cut-outs can have eyes, noses, mouths and buttons added, just like the baked ones – and the stars; well the sky’s the limit. Use your imagination with what to use for decorations. Ask your kids; they will always be able to come up with something you never would have thought of. Have fun with the presentation. You can add paddle-pop sticks (available from craft stores) or toothpicks to make the flowers standup, using half an orange as a base to stick the sticks into. See what other ideas your children have.

If they still go for the unhealthy stuff? Sometimes, no matter what you do, they will always go straight for the stuff you’re not so keen on them eating. If they eat a good healthy diet at home, they probably don’t see a lot of the foods you get at a kids party. You can always try feeding them before they go so they’re not ravenous at party food time and only eat a small amount of unhealthy food. You won’t be able to stop them trying other foods. It’s what kids do, they want to do what everyone else is doing. So if they’ve eaten before the party they may not be too tempted to try too many things or to stuff themselves. After all, Everything in moderation and balance.

My three-year-old had a seemingly ‘endless’ runny nose with watery eyes, sneezing and chest congestion. Thanks to your article on homeopathy for babies we were able to naturally treat her condition. She is now perfectly fine and we use those natural remedies on ourselves too when the seasons changes. Thank you very much for your quality articles. — Alexandre
Last fall, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Bonjour Baby via a giveaway over at the ecoxpo. They had a great display and hosted a giveaway and I won an organic cotton mini bunny. It was perfect timing too, as my little girl was just born. He loves his new cuddly friend. I haven't gone back to use any other resource platform again. Your articles are very high quality and I love your selection of products too. The Bonjour Baby products are truly amazing! I always look forward to your new articles and products. — Millie, Sydney
Every time my little girl has her bath, after using your products (we have the entire range) our whole family would comment on how our little ones smells! We all love your products, cannot give enough praise for them. The quality of your articles are also a great resource for the new parents wanting to raise a sustainable baby like us! Much love — Sangeeta, Neutral Bay
Thank you Bonjour Baby, you have done a fantastic job. We discovered you from a friend and you have inspired us to live a bit greener once our little one arrived a few months ago. My sister and I are continuously looking for your new articles, as we want what is best for our bubs. So thank you again for all these quality articles. — Magda and Jenny, Alstonville
I just wanted to let you know that our kanoe has basically saved my life and my marriage. It has changed our lives completely. My daughter now takes at least 3 naps a day! Before I had this Kanoe I was never able to get her to sleep except for when she would fall asleep on me nursing (...) I just wish I had known about it earlier. Thank you for making our life a little easier :) — Megan Williams
I would just like to say how much I love Bonjour Baby! They are really fantastic! I recently emailed some about baby care to some other mums in my parenting group and now my whole parenting group are all devoted Bonjour Baby fans! I’m just so glad your website is available, thank you again and keep up the great work! — Amalia, Wakerley QLD
