Babies Making Friends

Making friends is like walking. At first, children learn to do it with a lot of support. Later, they charge off on their own.
Children in child care have lots of opportunities to interact with other children their age. If your child is not in child care, it can be fun and helpful to create opportunities to play with others. Here are some things you can do to support your child’s early peer relationships.

Labour and Birth in Water

The benefit of using water to reduce the pain of childbirth is well established and accepted in most care settings. The use of a shower or hot wet towels for pain relief is common practise, however women wanting to labour and give birth while immersed in warm water may find caregivers and birth settings unprepared to provide this option.

Cotton and Environmental Issues

Cotton is native to tropical and sub-tropical regions around the world and has been cultivated, spun into thread, and woven into cloth for thousands of years. The earliest cultivation known was 7,000 to 8,000 years ago in Mexico.
Cotton fibers are used to make thread, which is woven into cloth. Cotton seeds are crushed and squeezed for oil, which is found in a variety of processed foods, while husks and field refuse is ground for animal feed.

Do You Get Nervous Symptoms?

Homeopathy looks at symptoms in a completely different way to conventional medicine. When the body is invaded by a pathogen such as a bacteria or virus, our immune system starts a very clever multi layered response process. Firstly, it tries to protect us from the invading pathogen; and then once that defense has been breached, it mobilizes numerous defenses to eliminate the invader. Some invasions are minimal causing a mild skirmish such as a minor head cold; whereas others are full blown battles producing strong and uncomfortable symptomology.

Hosting an Eco-Friendly Birthday Party

It seems like not so long ago when planning a child’s birthday party consisted of inviting a few family members over for homemade cake and ice cream. Fast forward to today where the cost of hosting a typical child’s birthday bash can run a parent more than a week’s paycheck.
For environmentally conscious parents, the big event can often become a big frustration.

Why is Fair Trade Important? (2/2)

The cost of business for corporations is vastly different from the cost of business for cooperatives. This cost is both monetary and environmental.
Consider the activities necessary for multi-national trade under the standard corporate model. Various carbon calculators estimate a singly weekly business flight as generating around 38 tons of CO2 yearly. The carbon cost and e-waste potential of international executives is beyond detrimental when food, clothing, cell phones, lap tops, and personal needs are taken into account.

I just wanted to let you know that our kanoe has basically saved my life and my marriage. It has changed our lives completely. My daughter now takes at least 3 naps a day! Before I had this Kanoe I was never able to get her to sleep except for when she would fall asleep on me nursing (...) I just wish I had known about it earlier. Thank you for making our life a little easier :) — Megan Williams
